About & Membership

The Ontario Network of Needleworkers (ONN) was formed in 1983. We are an umbrella group for Ontario stitchery guilds to share information and tips about educating our members and running our guilds. Our membership includes 13 stitchery guilds and groups across the Province, representing about 700 members.

Our mandate is:

  • To encourage communication among guilds and groups of needleworkers.
  • To share information about available resources: teachers, speakers, suppliers, etc.
  • To have an awareness of travelling instructors, to coordinate visits and share costs on some ventures.
  • To exchange information on current and upcoming fibre events: shows to visit, calls for entry, etc.
  • To help raise the profile of needlework to the general public.

To keep the organization manageable, the members elected to not have a board of directors, instead the administrative duties are handled by volunteers: Treasurer, Newsletter editor, Webmaster.  The webmaster handles requests for information. The Treasurer handles membership fees. The newsletter editor distributes the quarterly newsletters. The ONN-Line newsletter is distributed to member guilds in August, October, January and April.

The fiscal year is June 1 to May 31, and an annual general meeting is now held in the Fall, online. The Triennal fair is hosted by one (or more) member guilds and therefore, the location of the varies each year.

Membership & Member Benefits

  • Opportunities to share teacher costs with ONN member guilds/groups

Before you email ONN, ask yourself if your query is best addressed to an umbrella group for a number of organizations (that is, ONN) or whether it is a query for your local guild. We cannot guess if your local guild accepts donations of materials. Your local guild’s website is also the best source of info about their classes or workshops.

    • Hi Judith

There are no stitchers – from ONN – who are close to St. Catharines. The closest from ONN would be the Oakville group. There are other stitchery groups around that don’t happen to be members of ONN.

I see, from Facebook, that there is a group called Niagara’s Stitchers and they are interested in cross-stitch and embroidery. However, I know nothing about them and I can’t see their Facebook page as it’s private. I suggest you apply to be a member of their Facebook group and see what they can tell you about their focus and how often they meet.

      • Thank you so much for your reply that was filled with info that I could not find – I had seen no mention of the Oakville group. I will see what I can find with this Niagara Stitchers group as I do not have Facebook.

        Thanks again Judith

  1. I live in St. Catharines and decided to join the Toronto Guild of Stitchery. Happy to chat further if you have ideas for Niagara!
