St. James Cathedral Toronto will be presenting the inaugural showing of Hilary Rice’s new series, “Seeing Visions, Dreaming Dreams”. The exhibit and sale of embroideries by multi award-winning textile & mixed media artist Hilary Rice will take place from May 10-20, 2018. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Donations in support of the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund welcome.

A presence in the Canadian textile art world since 2002, Rice is known for her colour- filled, skillfully embellished, flowing, textile-based works. Rice’s innovative techniques and use of unusual materials mark her experimental artistic style. Guided by her faith and her connection to the natural world, Rice’s work is layered with spiritual and earthly themes.

Rice created the fourteen works for the “Seeing Visions, Dreaming Dreams” exhibit as an inspiration and guide for living harmoniously in the world around us. She describes the feeling of the show as “celebration balanced with contemplation”.

After an immensely popular showing at 2013’s “Sacred Stitches” event at St. James Cathedral, Curator & Archivist Nancy Mallett was inspired to bring Rice back for a solo exhibition of her work. “She is a gifted artist and we consider ourselves fortunate to again have the opportunity of showing her work here at the Cathedral,” Mallett said.
