OAKVILLE FIBRE ARTISTS
Started in 2011, the Oakville Fibre Artists are a creative and collaborative group of 30 individuals who are inspired by all things fibre. Many of our artists pursued formal art education and training, while others achieved ongoing learning through workshops and continued ‘traditional’ textile based practice.
This blend of experience has created a melting pot of dynamic ideas and methods such as fabric dyeing, layering textiles, slow stitch and various ways of manipulating the textile surface. Today, our work continues to evolve and although we maintain our foundation in fibre, we have added in other techniques such as eco dyeing, wet and needle felting and recycling clothing.
This year our 5th annual show of over 100 pieces of work will be on display at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre in Oakville from September 21 to October 16, 2024.

TRACEY LAWKO EXHIBIT

Happy Summer! from Tracey Lawko
I know it’s summer when the bees are busy collecting pollen in my rugosa roses. I love the metallic green of the Bicolour Striped Sweat Bee pictured above.
Early in March I was thrilled to see a honeybee in my snowdrops. This timing was normal for the snowdrops but earlier than prior years for the honeybee, possibly the result of a milder and shorter winter than usual. My stitched nature study “Harbingers” celebrates this renewal of the seasons. I hope you will come to see it at the SAQA Canada exhibition “Renewal” at Homer Watson House & Gallery in Kitchener, July 5 – Sept 8, 2024
