Report – October 2016

The summer began by The Group of Eight Fibre Artists celebrating their 10th Anniversary. The long hazy lazy days of summer offered the GOE perfect weather for a day-long ‘meeting’ in July – lots of food, drink and discussion to get our creative juices flowing. August brought a mini retreat where Jane Altobelli taught the “felted bag”, embellished with embroidery stitches.

September begins with the Fall Fair season and brings many 1st place ribbons for our labours. The juried Fibre Content show, held at the Art Gallery Burlington from September 8 -18, displayed some of our works. Heather Van Riesen’s, The Firth, was one of the pieces chosen from the show to travel to the following host locations: Orillia Museum, Orillia Jan-Apr 2017; Gibson Gallery, Amherstburg May-Jun 2017; and Simcoe County Museum, Minesing Sep-Nov 2017.

November will bring a “Silk Fusion” workshop, taught by our own Heather Van Riesen, and December a Business-Card-Inspired challenge. Can’t wait to see what the Group of Eight Fibre Artist’s produce next!
